Error Characteristics of Pan-Arctic Digital Elevation Models and Elevation Derivatives in Northern Sweden

چکیده

Many biochemical processes and dynamics are strongly controlled by terrain topography, making digital elevation models (DEM) a fundamental dataset for range of applications. This study investigates the quality four pan-Arctic DEMs (Arctic DEM, ASTER ALOS DEM Copernicus DEM) within Kalix River watershed in northern Sweden, with aim informing users about when comparing these DEMs. The assessment focuses on both vertical accuracy their abilities to model two derivatives, including topographic wetness index (TWI) landform classification. Our results show that is relatively high Arctic our area was slightly better than those reported official validation results. Vertical errors mainly caused tree cover characteristics slope. On other hand, does not translate directly into such as TWI classes, shown large classification all candidate produced derivatives most similar from reference but still high, underestimation land classes likelihood being wet. Overall, accurate followed lower accuracies ALOS, least ASTER.

Error Measurement in Multiresolution Digital Elevation Models

Multiresolution models are getting more and more importance for a scale-sensitive modelling of spatial data. In principle, they allow the representation of the data at a variety of scales. Of special importance are adaptive methods, where the resolution does not need to be uniform but may be variable. Then, error indicators are used to control the local resolution of the model. In this paper, w...

Improving user assessment of error implications in digital elevation models

A digital representation of a terrain surface is an approximation of reality and is inherently prone to some degree of error and uncertainty. Research in uncertainty analysis has produced a vast range of methods for investigating error and its propagation. However, the complex and varied methods proposed by researchers and academics create ambiguity for the dataset user. In this study, existing...

The Importance of Understanding Error in Lidar Digital Elevation Models

The paper presents the results of an accuracy analysis of a number of gridded Digital Surface Models (DSMs) which have been created from first return laser scanning (LiDAR) data. DSMs are created using a variety of methods, and differences between the models and the raw LiDAR data are quantified and the spatial patterns of the errors explored. The results presented in this paper demonstrate the...

Using geographically weighted regression for analysing elevation error of detailed digital elevation models

This case study concerns vertical errors of five different high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) originated from light detection and ranging (LiDAR), interferometric SAR (InSAR) and photogrammetric acquisition. The LiDAR DEM derived from last return points was considered as the reference DEM. The aim was to analyse the statistical and spatial distribution of the residuals and their re...
